WHY I AM RUNNING FOR MINNEAPOLIS PARK BOARD:
Every day, Minneapolis residents enjoy the benefits of the farsighted vision of the city's founding families. Visionaries like Horace Cleveland, who knew that a great city has to have great parks and that the policy governing those parks should be the focus of a board of people committed to being stewards of that legacy.
I am running for park board because I am fully committed to ensuring that the parks implement policies that enable the Minneapolis Park and Recreation board to continue to adapt to park users' needs as those needs change and evolve. These policies need to also allow for sustainable growth and maintenance of existing properties and amenities.
Many park lovers don’t have the time to dedicate to understanding the minutiae of how the park system they care so deeply about works. I pride myself on my familiarity with how the system works and my ability to procure answers to questions posed by other park users that I haven't been asked before.

I see a need and I work to address it. When I moved into the Wenonah neighborhood with my husband and son, many of my neighbors didn’t know each other beyond a friendly wave to someone working in their yard. I worked to correct that, to give us a sense of community that extended beyond just knowing your immediate neighbors. There was no group working as stewards of Lake Nokomis and its park, so I started one.
Through my work as the president of the Friends of Lake Nokomis I have gained an understanding of how the park system functions and the complicated processes that govern how work gets done. I have also developed a good working relationship with the elected officials and Minneapolis Park and Recreation board staff responsible for maintenance, repairs and water quality within the park. These relationships will be invaluable if I become the next park board commissioner for the fifth park district.
